Training School For Shepherds

BERLIN. Sheep-breeding has become an important item in the campaign for making Germany self-sufficient in foodstuffs and raw materials. Much has been done in this matter since the National Socialists camo to power. The total number of sheep has increased between 3933 and 1936 from 3,400,000 fo 5,000,000, according to recent statistics. But 3,000,000 more sheep must be added in order to bring the position up to that in 1930. This increase is declared to be the next goal of the sheep-breeders of this country. Among the difficulties to bo overcome in this campaign is the scarcity of good shepherds. To overcome this, a special training school is being established. The need for wool is clear. But the Germans will to be educated to eat mutton, if the sale of meat is also to be profitable. At present, very little of it is eaten here, a condition of things which some people attribute to the poor quality of the mutton now obtainable.
