“The Texas Rangers” Is Historical Epic
.FRED MacMUREAY HEADS CAST IN OUTDOOR FEATURE (State: Screening Saturday). Far amount’s "The Texas Hangers," King Vidor’s historical epic of the men who moulded a state irom the territory of Texas, xeatures an all star-cast headed * by t red Mac Murray and Jack Uakic, an including among its headliners jean Parker, Uoyd Nolan, Edward Ellis, Bennie Bartlett and a score of others. Filmed on location in Texas and New Mexico by a company of several thousand persons, with the assistance of officials of both States, "The Texas Kongers” combines a fast-moving, action and thrill-iilled story and a panoramic view of the unfolding of the history of the Lone Star State. Banded together under an oath to “drive out hostile Indians, stop feuds, destroy cattle and horso thieves, gangs of stage and train robbers, kill of capture murderers, and make Texas a reasonably safe place in which to live/’ the Rangers contributed much to the colour of the State’s early days. Both Mac Murray and Oakic join the fearless band in the course of the motion
Encounters of Ranger companies with oands of marauding Indians and with stage coach robbers are a part of the plot development. Miss Parker, remembered for her sincere interpretations of ‘‘Little Women/ 1 is cast as the daughter of the head of a Ranger unit.
Madge Collins, 18-year-old sister of Cora Sue Collins, child film star, makes her screeu debut with Claudette Colbert aud Fred MacMuray iu "Maid of Salem,” the historical romance being produced and directed by Frank Lloyd at Paramount.
At State on Saturday afternoon, each child who attends the screening of "The Texas Ranger’ * will receive a Shirley Temple balloon. Shirley will be seen shortly in "Dimples.” <s>s><s> <S> Johnny Downs is trying to find out who presented Eleanore Whitney with that diamond ring and wrist watch she's wearing, and Eleanore is keeping very quiet about the whole matter. She did get it in Chicago, however, and Henry Hart, Jnr., wealthy Chicago boy, was her constant escort when she was there.
