Escapades of Escaped Prisoners
NOT GUILTY PLEA ENTERED Per Press A^ociatlon. WANGANUI, Feb. 13. Further Cdcapados of prisouors in the Owkango districts were disclosed in Court to-day before Mr Salmon, S.M., When Harry Thomas Betts and John Joseph Morris were charged with breaking and entering the Owhango store of Thomas J. McKee by night on ’December 7 and stealing £l2 and a cash register, two cases of butter, tobacco and stores valued at about £lO4, also with converting to their owu use at Tho Chateau a car valued at £350, the property of J. L. J. D. Bayfield. Evidence was given by Lindsey Edist Garner, a prisoner, that, with tho accused and another prisoner, they decided to go out of their huts some night to Taumaruuux and got a supply of food, j for at that time they had complained of the quality of tho prison food. Ho detailed how pieces of wood were removed from the hut doors and how they went to The Chateau for a car and thrice to Owhango, where tho store waa robbed. The accused pleaded not guilty and were committed to the Supreme Court tor trial. then went for a mighty drive off Wyeth, missed,, and was stumped. He was on view for 165 minutes.
