T’lie largest crowd for several years attended the concluding day of the Egmont summer meeting. The course was holding but in surprisingly good order considering the heavy rain overnight. The totalisator handled £20,720, as compared with £12,260 on the second day last year, making the total for the meeting £27,350, as compared with £25,395. Spiral, Grateful, Dungarvan and Friesland were smartest to begin but passing the post the first time Friesland Had charge from Master Cyklon, Dungarvau and Grateful together, closely followed by Spiral and One Whetu. Friesland ran wide at the turn out of the straight for Grateful and Dungarvan to take the lead from the firstnamed, with the remainder of the field closely following. Down the back and around the far turn Grateful and Dungarvan held command from Friesland, who was just ahead of Master Cyklon and Spiral on terms. One Whetu was making a forward move. Dungarvan wrested the lead from Grateful entering the straight and he was followed by Friesland, Grateful, dropping back, One Whetu, Spiral aud Master Cyklon, all racing together. Friesland had Dungarvan ’s measure at the distance, going on to score comfortably. One Whetu and Spiral had a great duel for second, for the former to prevail by half a head. Dungarvan was close up fourth, followed by Grateful, Tout le Monde, Hazoor and Master Cyklon. ELECTRIC HANDICAP, of £120; 5 furlongs.

RANGITIKEI RACES ENTRIES CLOSE TONIGHT Ilorseowners and trainers are reminded that entries for all events at the Rangitikei R.C. autumn meeting, to bo held at Bulls on Saturday, March 6, close tonight at 9 p.m. Stakes for the seven, events have been raised from £620 to £855, the Cup being worth £200; the open sprint £150; a handicap hurdle race, £120; three hack flat races, £IOO each; and the Trial Plate, £BS. The latter is for maiden flat performers, at time of starting. This autumn the club has reverted to a hurdle race, the tracks being softer than usual, and there being a fair number of jumpers in training.

The principal officials for the meeting will be: Ilaudicapper, Mr J. E. Henrys; starter, Mr W. C. Price, judge, Mr A. V. O’Brien; and clerk of scales, Mr D. Stevens.
