OVBE £590,000 OBTAINED Tho record Auckland wool cheque for tho last eight years was distributed this week, when growers in the province received their returns for tho sale held on aJnuary 25. Tho aggregate amoutit was estimated at over. £590,000, or ovor £200,000 more than was yielded by the January sale last year, for which £324,081 was obtained. When this cheque was paid tho total distribution for the two Auckland sales wub approximately £1,029,270, us against £035,021 for the threo sales last season. Pinal figures lor the returns will bo available within a few days, but preliminary calculations show that the averago price for each balo should bo about £22, compared with the average price of £2O 10s tid for tho opening snlo of the season in November und £l2 2s Id for tho January sale last year. These figures ngroo with estinmtos at the time of the sale, when tho price was placed at over £22 a balo und up to 15Jd per lb. Almost a total clearance was effected and tho dispusal of a number of lots since tho sale has made it possible to increase tho estimate of tho clearance to 2*1,800 of tho 27,104. bales offered. The actual returns from tho March and November sales of lust year and the estimated figure for lust month’s sale compare as follows:
