Watson Bros.’ Old Shop Site Chosen EX-PALMERSTONIAN IS MAN BEHIND MOVE Palmerston North is to Kavo another picture theatre and within four months an imposing structure will havo been been built and in operation on the site in the Square where Watson Bros.’ grocery establishment used to be. The gentleman behind the venture is Mr. Sydney Tombs, of Auckland, already manager of two successfu l talkie establishments in other parts of New Zealand. Mr. Tombs is not unknown to the city, having resided in Palmerston North some 30 or more years ago. He will be remembored by older Palmerstonians. Since leaving the city he has had a wide experience in the motion picturo business extending over 35 years. During his absence from Palmerston North, however, he has kept in close touch with its pro gress and once again is displaying con ftdcnce in its future. The new theatre will be of two storoys with shops in front. It is to be built on most modern lines with the latest air-circulating plant and heating facilities. Earthquake-proof architecture is to be iucorporated and the interior of the theatre so arranged to produce natural sound without the aid of curtaining. There will be seating accommodation for upwards of 1000 people. The latest • wide-fange talkie plant has been ordered by way of equipmout, a feature being absenco of ground noises evident, in less modern plants. The interior lighting is to bo on the latest neon methods, while the exterior lighting will greatly enhance the brilliance of that portion of the Square where the thoatre is to be erected.

A commencement has been made with the demolition of the present building on the site.
