HAIL AND LIGHTNING IN THE SOUTH Per Press Association. ASHBURTON, Feb. 11. L A . severe ,’ electrical storm accompanied by heavy hail passed over last eveninsr Lightning knocked a big hole in tho chimney of the Blackbridge cheese fanlory; a farmer in tho district, Mr G A Parsons, was knocked down while milking and all the cows in tho shed, like"ise stock in the various paddocks, were al 30 knocked over. The whole telephone system at Binds was out of order and telephones and lighting disorganised in Ashburton borough. JAGGED LUMPS OF ICE DUNEDIN, Feb. 11. A severe hailstorm is reported from Cromwell. Although of only short duration, the hail fell with considerable violence. Hailstones the size of small marbles and shaped like jagged pieces of ice bounced to a height of two feet off the ground. Torrential rain, accompanied by thunder, fell for half an hour. __________________
