From Our Own Corresoondent Apitl was favoured with a beautifully fine day on Tuesday, and with two stock sales in the township, the place was unusually busy. Members of tho Anglican Church Giuld had a busy time providing teas to those attending the sales, and Mesdaines H. L. Osborne, C. M. Stanley, F. Munro, E. A. Prujean. S. H. White. W. J. Viles and Messrs R. J. Martin, and F.’ Viles were the willing helpers whose efforts were in aid of church funds. Mr J. Prince very kindly allowed the Guild the use of a shed for the serving of refreshrments. The Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held the first meeting of the year, and many others took the opportunity of coming to Apiti to visit friends. The District Nurse, although stationed in Feilding now, visits Apiti weekly and has arranged to come every Tuesday afternoon for the benefit of those needing her advice. The dog tax collector is now on his annual rounds in this district, supplying the canine world with new collars. Pigs afe selling well at present, and each week several lorry loads go out from this district. The P.M.A. have recently sent forward approximately 60 each week. W.D.F.U. Mrs A. It. McNae presided at the meeting of the W.D.F.U. on Tuesday afternoon. Regret was expressed that the secretary, Miss M. Paterson, is still confined to bed and all joined in wishing her a speedy recovery. Mrs J D. Kilgour carried out the secretarial duties for the meeting. Tho handsomely dressed doll, donated by Mrs H. L. Osborne, was won by Pamela McNae, of Halcombe. A vote of thanks was passed to the donor, whose gift considerably augmented the funds. It was decided to entertain the children at a picnic and social afternoon on a Saturday next month. Tho afternoon tea hostesses were Mesdames H. H. Jensen, J. D. Ivilgour and T. Nix. Farmers’ Union There was a moderate attendance at the meeting of the Apiti branch of the Farmers’ Union on Monday evening, Mr H. C. Mclntyre presiding. It was decided to arrange again for root crop competitions and the president has donated half a guinea for the heaviest crop of mangolds. The branch will support Mr Lloyd Hammond’s proposal re safeguarding against the introduction of foot and mouth disease into New Zealand. The meeting went into qommittee for the discussion of the transport question so affecting this district. Methodist Guild. The ladies of the Methodist Guild met at the Parsonage on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs R. Coombridge presided and led the devotional exercises. Also present were Mesdames T. H. Purnell, L. Guy, L. S. Gould, W. Digby. J. Mapson, T. Brazier, Misses Digby and Purnell, and a visitor, Mrs W. James. The business of the afternoon was the arranging of the garden party to be held later In the month at the Parsonage, at which will be the usual attractions. There will be prizes for decorated bicycles and decorated perambulators, which should Interest the boys and girls. Mrs Coombridge dispensed afternoon tea. Personal. Mr and Mrs A. Rankin, of Palmerston North, spent the week-end in Apiti with Mr and Mrs A. K. McNae. Mrs W. James, of Palmerston North, is at present, visiting Mrs L. Guy, Norsewood road.
Mrs Wright, cf Valley road, has returned homo after a short visit to Turakina. Mrs Le Quesne has returned to Ridge road after spending a holiday in Palmerston North.
