No Racing on Public Park

MINISTER'S REFUSAL. Per Press Association. GISBORNE, Last Night. An intimation that in future race meetings will not be permitted on the Park Domain was conveyed to a meeting of the Makaraka Domain Board by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry. The Minister stated that ho had b***n most reluctant to approve of the increased charges for admission to the domain for this week’s meeting and that future applications will not be entertained. “I heartily disapprove of the people’s resorves being used for the purpose ot racing,” stated the Minister, “particularly when a racecourse is available in the district. In anticipation of a similar future request I now state definitely that approval of an application for increased charges will not be given.” The Mayor, Mr D. W. Coleman, M.P., stated that the only hope now was to make a further appeal to the Minister when he visited Gisborne.
