confusion Arises From House Renumbering
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE REQUEST.
Street numbering, carried out in tho excellent manner now being adopted by the City Council, will bo heartily applauded by visitors and citizens alike out it would probably bo more appreciated if the. old numbers were destroyed at tho same time as the now ones were erected. At present much confusion is being experienced. At the meeting of tho Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce yesterday afternoon, two members who were unable to attend forwarded letters on the subject of house numbering in tho city. Air J. H. Stevens forwarded the following resolution:— “Un completing the renumbering of each city street, when alterations are made, the business community and others would bo grateful if tho City Council will send a carbon copy of the names, tho original numbers, and the new numbers, to the Chamber of Commerce and the Palmerston North newspapers. ’ ’ Air P. S. Larcomb wrote suggesting that the Chamber invito telcphono subscribers to advise the Chief i'ostmaster of tho new number of tlieir house so that it can bo altered in the new number of tho telephone directory. 1 'Since the City Council renumbered tho streets the directory loses much of its usefulness as a means to locate subscribers as they all appear as at a number now occupied by someone else," commented Air Larcoinb. No motion was adopted, but it was left in tho hands of Air Graham and the secretary to take up tho matter. It was suggested the City Council might bo able to assist in forwarding information to the P. and T. Department.
