Pretty Evening Wedding At All Saints’ Church
KILGALLON—PAPUNI. All Saints’ Church (Palmerston North) was the scene of a pretty evening wedding on Saturday, January 30, when Miss Lila (Mickie) Papuni, of Opotiki, became the wife of Mr. Hugh Kilgallon, formerly of Newcastle-on-Tyne (England) and now of Cloverly. Rev. Canon G. Y r . Woodward was the officiating clergyman. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr. Robert Papuni, looked picturesque in a graceful frock of magnolia Brussells lace worn over heavy crepe de chine. Tho corsage had a cowl neck-line and the sleeves were puffed in Elizabethan style. The skirt was slimffitting and tho train, which fell from the hip-line, was inlet with satin and appliqued with lace. The veil of ivory tulle bordered with lace which was held to her head with orange blossom, billowed softly to the train, and she wore silver shoes and carried a trailing bouquet of cream and pink roses and asparagus fern. In attendance as bridesmaids were Miss Thelma Jones (chief), of Palmerston North, and Miss Joyce Drinkwatei, of Dannevirke. They were similarly attired in sweet frocks of ivory georgette, the bodices having quaint dropped shoulders. Rosettes of georgette centred with silver provided distinctive trintming on the bodices and also on the skirts which were flared from the knees and finished with soft frills. Dawn Jeffery, niece of tho bride, was a dainty little flower girl, wearing a long frock of ivory georgette frilled round the neck and finishing tho skirt. AIL three maids wore ivory saris, also silver shoes, the bridesmaids having posies of crimson roses while the flower girl’s posy was of pale pink sweet peas. The best man was Mr. Alfred Gannon, of England, and the groomsman, Mr. Jack Thomas, of Waveriey. The reception following was held at the Jade tea-rooms, where some eighty guests were hospitably entertained. Mrs. Papuni, mother of the bride, received the guests wearing a floral rnarocain frock in tonings of pink and beige with a brown silk crepe coat, a beige straw hat, and she carried a bouquet in autumn tonings. Mrs. D. Lawrence, aunt of the bridegroom, wore black crepe de chine relieved with white and a black hat. Mrs. A. Jeffery (Opotiki) sister of the bride, had chosen briefcred flat crepe with beige trimmings and hat to tone; Mrs. S. Gedson, also a sister, wore a Marina blue two-piece suit with biscuit straw hat while Mrs. A. Hockey- (Hamilton), another sister, wore blue floral georgetto with hat to tone. Mrs. R. Papuni, sister-in-law of the bride, was in pale green flat crepe with, pink straw hat. The long tables were centred with gladioli and charm dahlias and holding pride of place was the three-tiered wedding cake handsomely ornamented.
The usual toasts were honoured and felicitations offered, Mr. S. Gedson proving a genial toastmaster. • When tho bride and bridegroom left later the bride appeared for travelling in a pink suit with navy accessories and pink hat.. '
