Mrs. Arthur Bendall, Grey street, is making satisfactory progress after her recent serious illness. Miss Marjorie Palmer-Brown, of Wanganui, and Miss Erico Scoble, of Wellington, are tho guests of Miss Molly Oakley, Rainforth street. Touring the North Island for a fort night aro Mr. and Mrs. W. 8. Dustin, of Ferguson street, Miss Noel Dfistin and Mr. lan Dustin. Mrs. Spier, of Palmerston North, who has been staying with Mrs. Herbert Collier, Campbelltown, Wanganui, has returned home. Mrs. Seeker, senr., of . Palmerston North, is visiting the King Country, where she is the guest of Mrs. W. F. Seeker, of To Kuiti. Mrs. J. D. McQuin has been spending a few days as the guest of Mrs. C. H. Tate before leaving Feilding for her new homo in Dargaville. Mr., Mrs. and Miss Lois Frecklington, of Kimbolton road, Feilding, aro leaving to-day to spend a motoring holiday which will include visits to Gisborne, Tologa Bay and Morere Springs. Mrs. R. Bevan, of the Empire Hotel, Feilding, left Wellington by the Awatea on Thursday for Sydney and Melbourne, taking over her two racehorses, which her friends hope will bring her good luck. Miss Molly Oakley has returned to Palmerston North after spending a holiday at Queen Charlotte Sound and Paekakariki. Miss Beryl Oakleyj whose holiday has been spent in Auckland, Hamilton and the Cnateau, returned homo by the Limited this morning. Miss Sophie Ginger, of Hawera, celebrated her 98th birthday on Sunday. Miss Ginger, despite her great age, takes a great interest in general affairs. She has resided in Taranaki for very many years and is the last survivor o.t those who, in the early days of the province, arranged functions to collect, funds which were needed for the eost of sewing the original colours of the Taranaki Regiment, presented 76 years ago. Miss Ginger was among the spectators present at Pukekura Park last year when new colours were presented to the regiment, and naturally the occasion was one of special interest to her.

Mrs Hugh Robinson, better known in New Zealand as Alison Grant, a New Zealand wirter of verse and prose, is at present in Sydney with her husband and small son, John. For the past year she has been a contributor to the Sydney Morning Herald, Sydney Sun and the Sydney Mail, in which also appeared a clever pencil portrait of Miss Violet Vanbrugh (Mrs Bourchier), the eminent English actress recently visiting Australia. Under the name of John Muir, Mrs Robinson has done several outstanding posters, principally for the Australian Broadcasting Coiflmission, and has made novel use of her art in the designing of modern floors to be reproduced in rubber. Her radio talks on Spain and England contain names of many men and women of letters, such as Edith Sitwell, Lord Dunsany, James Stephens, the late A. E., W. 8., Yeats, Walter de la Mare, Margaret Kennedy, Rebecca West, Henry Handel Richardson, and others whom she has personally known.
