CARY GRANT’S TITLE ROLE IN “ERNEST BLISS” (Mayfair: Screening To-day). Feasibility overshadows aiiy element of fantasy in the entertaining story of a young millionaire who, bored with life, takes a doctor’s advice, throws his wealth aside, and steps into the world to make his own living and see life in it 3 true perspective which constitutes the E. Phillips Oppenheim romance, * * The Amazing Quest ot Ernest Bliss.” London in many moods is attractively portrayed in the unfolding of this intimate glimpse of reality. Gaiety and the realm of wealth from a background to the opening scenes, in which Bliss can find no further enjoyment. Fed up with everything, he visits a Harley street physician, who tells him the truth about himself, that all he really needs is a taste of honest toil. Tho doctor goes so far as to bet Bliss his fee that lie could not put his present life aside and start anew. Accepting the wager, Bliss offers to contribute a fabulous sum for a much-needed clinic and goes out as a man of tho world, with £5 iu his pocket to make his own way. First of all, after many heartbreaks, eased by the sympathy of a motherly landlady, ho becomes an electric stove salesman. When this seems hopeless, he draws money to cook free meals, thereby winning a huge order and the typist’s heart. Next he is glad to accept the role of a ghoulism slum greengrocer’s messenger, who creates a lively brawl at the Covcnt Garden market, and again seeks the street in preference to the advances of his slovenly, employer. As : a public chauffeur, who eventually buys thc business, dismissing the niggardly manager and giving a kindly mechanic the position, ho is mistaken by lorgers for himself, and enters into a bargain to present one of their cheques to draw from liis own account only to, put their heads into a hornet’s nest. All the while ho pursues his romance with the typistc, who is the cause of his losing his wager, but all is rounded out with a jolly celebration at which Bliss' now circle of acquaintances are entertained. Cary Grant’ appears as Bliss, and Mary Brian, Henry Kcnda, and A 1 Gordon fill minor roles.
A new dancing team is about to make its appearance on the screen. The team is made up of Louis Da Pron and Olympe Bradna who performed, individually in Paramount’s recent “Throe Cheers For Love.” They* will make the bow as a team ‘‘College Holiday” which also stars Eleanoro Whitney, Johnny Downs, Jack Benny and Burns and Allen.
