Coronation Stamps
NEvv ZEALAND TO ISSUE THREE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The New Zealand Post Office intends to issue special commemorative stamps at the time of the Coronation of his Majesty King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. "There will be three denominations,” states the Postmaster-General, Hen. F. Jones, "namely Id (red), 2Jd (blue) and 6d (vermilion), and in shape and general design they will bear a close resemblance to the Silver Jubilee issue which was so popular. The oblong shape, about twice the size of the current penny stamp, will carry the portraits of their Majesties surrounded by a frame in which will appear a Jistinctive New Zealand design. "The order for the preparation of this issue,” continued the PostmasterGeneral, "lias already been placed with Messrs. Bradbury, Wilkinson cud Company, Ltd., London, the printers of the Silver Jubilee stamps, and delivery will bo made in time to commence sales about the date of the Coronation early in May. The intaglio line-engraving method of reproduction is being utilised as this gives a very clear impression. Tho Coronation stamps will be on sale until December 31, temporarily replacing the pictorial stamps of the same denominations. “For Cook Islands and Niue the New Zealand Coronation stamps will be specially overprinted. In respect to Samoa, a mandated territory, the Government will follow the precedent set by the United Kingdom which will not issue spocial commemorative stamps in respect to mandated territories and protectorates. A suggestion prediualy made that there would bo a King George V memorial stamp for Now Zealand is not being proceeded with owing to tho issue of the three Coronation stamps. ’'
