Foxton’s Half-holiday Question
RATEPAYERS DECIDE REVERSION TO WEDNESDAY Owing to a deal of dissatisfaction among businessmen and residents regarding the proposed alteration in the half-holiday to be observed in Foxton, businessmen recently signed a petition pledging themselves to meet the expenses incurred in holding a poll of ratepayers to definitely and finally decide the question. The poll, which closed on Saturday last, showed a majority of 47 votes in favour of the mid-week halfday. In all 642 ballot papers were distributed by post to those eligible to vote on the question, and during the weekend the count was mado in the presence of the Mayor (Mr. M. E, Perreau) and one councillor, together with an attendance of representatives of local busi r.esses. The final result was as follows: Wednesday 286 (Saturday .. 239 Informal . I A good deal of interest in the ques tion was evinced by the general public, in view of the fact that out of 642 who were supplied with ballot papers, 526 cast their vote.
