I DUNEDIN TRACK WORK HEAVY RAIN YESTERDAY. DUNEDIN, Feb. *. Very heavy raia fell at Wingatui for a few hours last evening and did an immense amount of good to the training tracks. The course proper and the inside grass track were available for the fast work this morning and provided good but slightly slower going than last week. There was not much really fast galloping done, most of the trainers prefering to wait for to-morrow morning, when some of the visiting horses will be present and the tracks are likely to be faster. Grand Finale completed a circuit on the course proper by running the last half-mile without being extended in 58 l-sscc. Final Bell was only sprinted over the last three furlongs id! 44 l-ssec. Violcnta was stopping at seven furlongs on the same track in lmin. 40see. McHeath took lmin. 22sec. to run six furlongs, doing it well all the way. Gay Circle and Travenna ran ten furlongs on the inside grass track, but there was not much pace on until passing the seven-furlong barrier. At the six-furlong post Black Earl joined them, having a lead of three lengths. Black Earl finished about a length in front of the other pair, whose time for the seven furlongs was lmin. 39 2 ssec. Black Earl ran the last four furlongs in 55 1 ssec. Gold Boa was never fully extended while moving seven furlongs on the Viking, who looks bigger and bettor now than when racing during the holidays, was not doing his best to run half a mile in 55sec'. Look Smart, who will be ridden iu Thursday’s hurdle race by J. Mitchell, ran seven furlongs in lmin. 42sec. on the inside track. Forecast ran five furlongs on the course proper in lmin. 8 A large number of horses were given half to three-quarter pace work.
