Fines and Penalties

MAGISTRATE’S COURT PROCEEDINGS Mr J. L. Stout S.M., presided at the Palmerston North Magistrat’s Court yesterday. Bruce S. McMurray who sold, ammunition (.22) to a person under 16 years of age, was fined 10s with 15s costs. Ivan Edwin Vautier (Whakarongo) who sold a fire arm (.22) to a person under 16 years of ago, was also fined 10s with 12s costs. A motor hearse and car collided at the junction of Milson lino and the ; Kairanga-Bunnythorpe road on January 19. The rsquel was the appearance beforo his Worship of Francis 11. Tucker, the car driver, on a charge of having no license. He was fined 10s with 10s costs. The driver of the hearse, E. 11. Webber, of Levin, was also fined 10s with 13s costs for having no license and £3 with 17s costs on a charge of dangerous driving. Webber’s excuse was that ho was uncertain of the turnings and was watching the finger posts. James Henry Towler was sentenced to 14 days goal to be released on payment of £5 2s arrehrs of maintenance in respect of his child. Norman John Ash will go to goal for ’one month, unless ho pays £8 mam-

tenance arrears in respect of his children and £3 10s owing to his wife. 11. White, of To Telco, Bay of Plenty, was sentenced to one month’s goal unless he pays £7 due us maintenance for his child. White was also ordered to lodge £SO with the Public Trustee as security for maintenance Counsel for tho complainant (Mr L. 11. Sinclair) 6aid the order was made in August 1933 and no fewer than nine informations had been issued since September 1934. White would pay nothing until a warrant was issued.

Two radio listeners, who had unlicensed sets, were each fined £1 with 10s costs.
