la connection with the petition forwarded by 28 shopkeepers of Pahiatua protesting against the action of the Pahiatua Borough Council in deciding on the Saturday half-holiday the following reply has been received from the Minister of Labour (Hon. H. T. Armstrong) : “With reference to your petition of the 21st ultimo in connection with the appointment of a half-holiday at Pahiatua, I regret to have to inform you that if the Council has appointed the day m accordance with the machinery laid down in the Shops and Officers Act then I have no option but to gazette the day January, seven days’ notice of such quires that a special meeting of the Council be held during the month of collision Mr Keats’ truck was pulled meeting to be given by advertisement.” The Bnsh Rugby Union has announced that the successful tenderer for the lease of the Showgrounds for 1937, is Mr A.
