LARGE FAMILY CIRCLE. BROTHER KILLED IN THE WA*. The accession of the new King and Queen, by reason of tho fact that the Queen was born a commoner, Has brought a number of noble houses into closer association with the Throne, A member of a large family—originally six sons and four daughters—the Queen has more than 50 immediate relatives. In addition, tho families into which her brothers and sisters married are now brought into greatef prominence. Her Majesty's eldest brother. Lord Glamis, married a sister of the Duke of Leeds —Lady Dorothy Osborne. They have four children—the Master of Glamis, the Hon. Cecilia BowelI/yon, and the Hon. Timothy and Hon. Nancy Bowen-Lyon, who are twins. The next brother, the Hon. Fergus Bowes-Lyon, was killed in the war about the time that a daughter. Rosemary, was born to his wife, a sister of he Earl of Portarlington. She has now married again, and is Lady Christian Martin. The Hon. Michael Bowes-Lyon, the third brother, married Miss Elizabeth Cafcor, a girlhood friend of the new Queen. Their children aro Fergus, Cecilia, and Patricia Bowes-Lyon. ANCIENT PEERAGE. The next in age, th 0 Hon. John Bowes-Lyon, died in 1930. He was married to a daughter of Lord Clinton. She survives him. and has a family of four girls, Anne, Nerissa, Diana, and Catherine Bowes-Lyon. The Hon. David Bowes-Lyon, her Majesty's youngest brother, who is two years younger than she, married Miss Rachel Spender-Clay, a niece ot Viscount Astor. They have a eon Simon, and a daughter, Davina. The Queen's eldest sister, Lady Elphinstone, i s the wife of one of the oldest Scottish barons, his peerage dating back to 1509. Their children are the Master of Elphinstone, the Hon. Andrew, the Hon. Elizabeth, and the Hon .Margaret Elphinstone, and the Hon. Mrs. John Wills, who, ag the Hon. Jean Elphinstone, was married this year. Lady Rose Leveson-Gower, wife of the heir-presumptive of Earl Granville, Rear-Admiral the Hon. William Leveson-Gower. is the other sister, and she hag a son and a daughter, Granville and Mary. In addition to the son killed in the war and the Hon. John Bowes-Lyon, who died six years ago, the Earl and Countess of Strathmore, parents of the Queen, lost a son and a daughter before the war. Queen Elizabeth has a large circle of cousins. Her uncle, the Hon. Francis Bowes-Lyon, who married Lady Annie Lindsay, a daughter of the 25*h Earl of Crawford, has two sons, each of whom i s married, and each of whom ha s threo children. Another uncle, the Hon. Patrick Bowes-Lyon, who married a ward of a member of che Lister-Kaye family, has two daughters. The Hon. Malcolm and Mrs. Bowes-Lyon—a third uncle and an aunt by marriage—have one daughter, who married Lord Malcolm DouglasHamilton, a son of th e Duke and Duchess of Hamilton and Brandon. There are two daughters of this marriage. Tho Hon. Mrs. Ernest BowesLyon comes into this group, having married still another brother of the Queen's father. He died in 1891, leaving a family of five, and the Queen has cousins and second cousins in this connection also. Her aunts are Lady Constance Blackburn and Lady Maud BowesLyon, the former having three daughters, each of whom is xfihrried. The youngest of them i s the wife of the Hon. James Carnegie, a son of the Earl of Sonthesk, and brother-in-law of Lady Maude Carnegie. Lady Strathis s member of the CavendishBentinck family, her father having been the late Rev. Charles William Cavendish-Bentinck. • .• • •
