Of Local Interest
It was decided at the Pahiatua County Council meeting on Saturday morning that as the statutory half-holi-day in Pahiatua was to be Saturday in future, .the council would meet on the second Wednesday of the month. The two holidays to be given by the County Council to their employees this year was also decided as show day, February 13, and the annual race meeting day, March 19.
Thero was a serious interference at the monthly meeting of the Pahiatua Radio Listeners' Club on Thursday night when transmitter ZL2LE (Mr. T. Pinhey) jammed the usual programme by calling on Mr. R. B. Ulassey (ZL2NS) to accept a beautiful hall mir ror from the club to mark the latter's pending elevation to the ranks of the Benedicts. The speaker was heard very distinctly in his brief eulogy of the services of Mr. Glassey and when he signed off to enable the latter to respond the ether was disturbed as by so much static, so great was the applause. Advice has been received from the manager of the Bank of. New Zealand at Pahiatua (Mr. D. O. Howden) that a large shipment of crossbred wool sent home to England by the Bank for the January sales on behalf pf & Rakaunui grower netted the latter £39 per bale! The average price received for crossbred at the recent Wellington sales was £24 per bale. Needless to say the grower was extremely gratified since the price he received covered all Costs from the wharf.
