CRICKET IN FEILDING

Colyton Lose to Public Service OLD BOYS SNATCH VICTORY FROM FEILDING. The final stages of tho play in the senior cricket in Feilding on Saturday witnessed some keen play. Well dawn on their first innings effort Feilding nevertheless had high hopes of capturing the verdict from Old Boys who, however, eclipsed Feilding’s second innings form and won the day with wickets to spare. Colyton, playing Public Service, entertained similar hopes against their opponents who battled hard for a three point win which they lost by the narrow margin of 13 runs to bo content with a two point verdict on the first innings strike.

Opening on the previous Saturday Colyton failed to produce more than 87 runs and at stumps Service had a comfortable lead. On resuming Servico concluded their lirst strike for 138 leaving their opponents 51 behind. Tho country eleven made a valiant bid for runs in the hope of being able to secure advantage. The bats responded hitting out at everything. AI. Waldin in particular made a very confident stand and in a happy mood slogged the bowling at will, in very quick time ho had contributed 77 when ho missed James and lost his bails. With seven wickets down for 196 Colyton declared, hoping to be able to handle Service within the time available and secure a straight out win. Servico opened with Stephens and Crump a partnership which was soou disposed of. This was promising but when James and Monteith became associated the telegraph was kept busy and as the score rose Colyton’s hopes dwindled whilo those of tho Service team soared in anticipation of a three point verdict. Timo carno with James still at the crease with 74 to his credit and Service l: runs short of the number required to give them a straight out verdict. Feilding showed improved form in continuing tlicir second strike on Saturday. Just beforo timo on tho previous Saturday Dunu and Fitzpatrick had opened and with tho score at 30 tho latter was dismissed by a catch off Rosoman. Sugdcn joined Dunn and in tho play on Saturday the latter struck form to carry his strike to tho total of G 9 when he was caught off Dewe. With a score of 167 Feilding declared when seven wickets down. Old Boys required 120 for tho verdict and secured the runs with timo to sparo lor the loss of five wickets. In the "B" grade contests Union defeated Feilding B with a comfortable margin. In the first innings of Feilding the team was unable to manage the bowling of Clandgc who did tho "hat trick” by dismissing Naylor, Reid and Robson in succession and taking, in ail, seven wickets for 13 run*.
