Feilding Primary Schools

ANNUAL SPORTS ABANDONED Owing to the fact that tho primary schools will not resume until March 1, duo to the precautions taken to prevent as far as possible the spreading of the infantilo paralysis epidemic, the annual sports meeting of the Feilding and District Public Schools' Amateur Athletic Association, duo to bo held on tho second Saturday in Alarch, has been aban doned for this year. Tho decision was reached at a hurriedly summoned meeting of the committoo held on Friday evening. Generally tho committee was reluct ant to abandon tho sports meeting but were influenced in this step by difficulties in connection with the organisation. It was mentioned that there had been changes in the staffs of both the Feilding schools and in this connection the organisation had lost tho services of officials whose knowledge of the running of tho sports was most valuable. This fact aloug with tho late opening of tho schools would seriously interfere with tho efficiency of the organisation. Tho only suitable date beforo Easter was March 20 but this would not give sufficient time to arrange tho x>rogramme and the uncertainty of the weather after Easter was considered too great a risk to take. Generally the committee felt that it would be in tho interests of all to abandon this year’s fixture.
