Local Body Workers
Recently local bodies throughout New Zealand wero before the ConclTtatiou Commissioner fv>r an agreement, but lor somo reason a certain section of local bodies were held in abeyance as regards new conditions. The Wellington City Council is at present working under a separate agreement. Recently Masterton entered into an agreement covering all sections of workers which is considered very satisfactory to the employees. Hawke’s Bay has entered into a Conciliation agreement which should give satisfaction to the employees concerned. The next in. the Wellington industrial district is anticipated to cover the Palmerston North and, iu all probability, the surrounding boroughs, such as Feilding, Levin, etc. When this time arrives it is believed that much contentment will be shown amongst different sections of workers employed by the boroughs in the Manawatu district. They have long waited for an improvement in some of the different sections of employment. At a meeting to bo held at an early date the workers will have an opportunity of putting forward proposals that will be ventilated at a conference at a later date. By this method tho workers will have no after feelings that everything possible was not done for them.
