Trans-Pacific Airways
The great Pan-American Airways concern, the Imperial Airways of U.S.A., are prepared to undertake a service across the Pacific from California to Now Zealand. The offer is a very wonderful one for this Dominion. No subsidy is asked for, no grant; all that Pan-American Airways ask is the right to build, at their own expense, a terminal port at Auckland. In return for this right, they offer their service and the most experienced trans-ocean service in all the world. This is the same concern that runs the China Clippers. Negotiations have now dragged on for months and months and not yet has finality been reached. There has been a suggestion that the whole scheme has fallen through. This has since been denied but even so, we consider that the unending delay may seriously jeopardise the initiation of this to New Zealand the most important undertaking. It is high time that the responsible Minister made an informative statement to the public. Information could bo given explaining the apparently undue delay, the present state of negotiations, and the x>rospect of the service being started.
