Horse Float on Fire
POLICE EFFECT AN ARREST (Special to “Times”) HASTINGS, Feb. 5. A lire in the driver’s cab of a iii-rse* float the property of Mr G. W. B. McCormick and situated in a storage shed in Tomoana road was responsible lor the calling out of the Hastings Fire Brigade shortly after 4 30 o’clock yesterday afternoon. When the brigade derived on the econo there was a big blaze, the outbreak apparently having obtained a good hold. However, tho brigade was successful in confining tho flames to the cab of the vehicle, which was fair ly extensively damaged. Tho circumstances surrounding the outbreak led to a thorough investigation by the police, for the machine had not been used since the previous day and, as far as was known, had not even been handled by an authoria ed person during the day. Interesting developments took place this morning, Detective-Sergeant L. J 3 J. Revell effecting the arrest of a man who, it is alleged, Was responsible the outbreak of tho fire, and who \varecently temporarily in the employ c Mr McCormick. The accused is to ap pear before the Court this afternoon
