Tailcoats for Women
Tailcoats for women’s evening dress aro the success of the winter fashions in Paris, states tho Sydney Morning Herald’s correspondent. When the first tailcoat model was launched by an English house in Paris in the spring, it was considered somewhat daring. But th;> idea has “caught on,” and now endless variations of tails are being made in taffeta, velvet, and brocade. The taffeta suits generally havo very wide lapels, reaching to the shoulder, with square-shouldered sleeves. Brocade lends itself to greater fantasy, and lame materials give a decidedly eighteenth century effect. The tailcoat theme is also followed for afternoon frocks. A black velvet “tailcoat” with ermine lapels, anJ ermine outlining tho cut-away down the front, was shown at ono mannequin parade launching this fashion. It had an ermine muff as a rather unexpected and delightful accessory.
