Easter Football
aPILLANE RUGBY TOURNAMENT. At a special meeting of tlie St. Patrick’s Football Club, on Wednesday, the preliminary arrangements in connection with the Bpillano and Brennan Cup Rugby tournament, to bo played at Palmerston North on Easter Saturday and Monday, were completed and the various committees sot up to control this important tournament, which has attracted eight senior North Island teams of tho Marist Brothers Old BoyS’ Rugby Football Association. The tournament, which is being held in the city for the first time, is creating considerable interest and will provide a good start for tho 1937 Rugby seasoli. The following executive officers were elected at Wednesday’s meeting: President, Mr J. J. O’Shea; padre, Rev. Fathor Herlihy; lion, secretary, Mr F. E. Sherwood; hon. treasurers, Messrs 11. J. Hickey and T. E. Davidson; committee, Messrs O. Murphy, P. Ferguson, W. Creed, J. Hebberley, A. Ferguson, L. Smith, and J. Fitzpatrick. Sub-commit-tees: Ball and welcome, M<V»rs T. E. Davidson (chairman), W. Crood, O. Murphy, L. Smith, P. Quigan; banquet and reunion, Messrs H. J. Hickey (chairman), E. Fell, R. Butcher, J. Clifford, I. Burke; Sunday, Messrs E. Houlihan (chairman), O. Murphy, L. Smith, A. Mikkelsen. A special feature of the tournament will bo a grand parade at the Showgrounds of the eight competing teams, who will be led by the City Silver Band. Tho programme arranged is as follows: Good Friday evening.—Official and civic welcome to visiting teams. Saturday.—Matches in morning and afternoon. Grand ball In evening. Sunday.—Mass and Communion for players. Afternoon entertainment to bo arranged. Conference of tho New Zealand Marist Old Boys’ Rugby Football Association in tho evening. Monday.—Semi-final games in morning. First afternoon match, final of Brennan Cup; followed by final of Spillano Cup. Reunion banquet and presentation of trophies in the evening. The usual coach of the St. Patrick’s Football Club, Mr J. Hebberley, will be on leave just prior to Easter, but the club has been especially fortunate in securing tho services of Mr A. J. Galpin, the former Manawatu and North Island representative, who coached the successful Old Boys’ team the season before last, to give the local representatives their final coaching. Tho personnel of tho 20 players to train will be announced at an early date.
