Thrown into tho Waikato River by the capsize of a canoe, two youths Neville Langley and Norman Jones, both aged 19, and Patricia Bandham, a girl aged about 15, had a narrow escape from drowning. Finding that her clothes hampered her in swimming the girl clambered on to the overturned canoe and her two companions commenced to swim to the shore, pushing the canoe in front of them. When they finally reached the shore the two of them were exhausted, although they soon recovered. The girl suffered no illoflects.
