LOCAL HORSES AT WELLINGTON Franz Derby, owned and trained by A. G. Farland on the local training track, was a winner at Wellington yes terday. She ran good races in Auckland without any luck on her side. Baron Grand and Bolinda King raced unsuccessfully on the first day at Wellington but are both expected to get into the money before they return to Ashhurst. The local training track is in splendid order and a large number of horses are working on it. Tho Manawatu Trotting Club committee is meeting early next week with the idea of holding a matinee meeting on the club’s training track about the end of this month or early in March. The idea ia to give horses that will bo racing on the west coast trotting circuit at Easter time a pipe-opener for tho campaign.

The Manawatu Trotting Club’s programme for its April meeting will be published shortly and will be a pleasant surprise for owners and trainers. Two handsome trophies have boon donated to the club for the meeting.
