AID TO MORTGAGE ADJUSTMENT
Schedule of Produce Prices Over Past Ten Years REVIEW COURT’S OI3ER (Special to “Times”) ' HASTINGS, Feb. 4 An order for the Court of Ko view has been prepared setting out schedules of the average prices ot produce over the last ten years as a basis for computing the productive value of farm properties for tho purpose of adjustment under the Mortgagors and Lessees Rehabilitation Act. Applications for relief under the Act closed on Monday last. The order will enable parties Interested to obtain full particulars of the computation required under the Act, and will thus give them the material necessary to conduct negotiations for settlement between themselves without having to go before an adjustment tommission. Those findings have now been made available, and copies may be obtained at tho Hastings Courthouse. The schodulo has been produced after oioso research into tho various factors influencing production from farms and stations, and as far ns possible tho Court of Review lias given a lead for tho respective district commissions, though in some divisions tho findings apply to provincial or combined districts. Thus, in regard to certain dojeriptions of produce values for Poverty Bay are grouped with those for Hawke's Bay. Generally speaking, tho prices quoted for the guidance of tho district commissions represent the average for tho past 10 years, though in some cases ( shorter periods havo boon used, July 31, 1935, being tho terminal date in each instance. Gross sale prices at tho point of sale have been examined as tho basis for price stabilisation, and commissions will make allowances for charges deductable from those prices in adjusting the scale for local application. All available sources of information appear to have been tapped by tho Court of Review in determining its schedule, and as far as possible tho difficulties of fixing averages for auch items as fruit, the marketing of which is subject to special influences and fluctuations, has been overcome by the Court by reference to available statistics, but commissions aro advised to take local condition's into account in applying the schedule. Certain other items which contribute iii small proportion to the income ol tho farmers of Now Zealand arc not so voted by the schedule, a notablo instance of this being tho sale of horses, in respect of which prices havo fluctuated so widely as to mako the fixing of iverag.e prices almost impossible.
