France Piles Up Armaments

Passing a vote of confidence in the Government by 405 to 186, the Chamber of Deputies authorised an expenditure of £190,000,000 for a comprehensive defence scheme of which £140,000,000 will he expended in the next three years. M. D&ladier confirmed the extension of the Maglnot line along the Swiss frontier and along the Belgian frontier to Dunkirk. He congratulated Britain on modernising her defences and said if a dictator declared war he would soon realise the soundness of France’s position. Prance’s defeat would be Europe’s agony. All her neighbours were arming and France must not remain inert to fall an easy prey.
