REMARKABLE WORK OF BUILDING SOCIETIES. (British Official Wireless.) Received Wednesday, 9.20 p.m. RUGBY, Feb. 2. Sir Enoch Hill, President of the Halifax Building Society of Britain, states that three million houses have been built in this Country since the armistice. Approximately two million have been bought through building societies and more than one million British citizens were buying their homes through building societies at present. Since the end of the war societies had lent to homebuyers £1,000,000,000. Today the movement was in a stronge* position than ever. The assets exceeded £600,000,000 and the number of sharo investors and borrowers was more than three million. During 1935-36 £130,000,000 was advanced on mortgage to enable some 240,000 citizens to buy houses.
