Next Year’s Dominion Band Contest

PALMERSTON NORTH MAKING APPLICATION. Application is to be made for «-ae 1938 Dominion brass bands contest to be held iu Palmerston North, consequent on a decision at a meeting of citizens last night. The Mayor (Mr. A. E. Mansford), who was in the chair, explained the conditions under which the contest* were staged and pointed out that a total outlay of about £BOO would bo involved. Guarantees would be needed, and he suggested that the amount of each should be fixed at £lO. He did not think that there would be any difficulty in securing 80 guarantees at this sum, and expressed the opinion that the contest committee would need to experience a lot of extremely hard luck before each guarantor was called upon to pay the whole of his £lO. On the motion of Mr. J. A. Nash, it was decided to apply for the contest. The following committee was set up to further the application and to take steps in regard to the raising of the guarantees: Messrs. G. Tremaine, W. H. Brown, F. Jackson, W. Mouldey, J. T. J. Heatley, J. A. Nash and tho Mayor. If the application is successful, the Mayor will call another meeting at which committees will be set up to make all arrangements for tho contest.
