Feilding A. and P. Show
Concludes in Beautiful Weather EXCELLENT PATRONAGE ACCORDED. The second and concluding day of the annual show of the Feilding A. and P. Association yesterday witnessed a continuance of the beautiful weatVor of Tuesday and a large attendance of the public. Attractions throughout the day were confined to the competitions ring where horses and ponies took part in tlio various events, tho running of which held the interest of the large crowd. During one of tho hunters’ competitions, Air. Pearson, the well-known hunter of Cunninghams, riding the popular performer, Padmore, came to grief, his mount refusing to take one of the jumps. Air. Pearson sustained h fractured collarbone and a scar or two about the face. Early in the afternoon Mr. H. J. Lancaster, president, addressed the crowd through loud-speakers, thanking the ex hibitors for the wonderful support they had accorded the show. The fact that the entries had constituted a record for the association revealed the high opinion tho show hold with district breeders arid the further fact that not only local exhibitors but those from far afield clearly indicated that to win au award at the Feilding Show was regarded by breeders as no mean honour. Regarding the Alanawatu Jersey Oaks, the speaker said that the association was deeply appreciative of the honour the Alanawatu Jersey Breeders’ Club had accorded it. The competition had l>roved an outstanding attraction while the exhibits had excited the admiration of all breeders. Mr. Lancaster praised the exhibits in the section devoted to Women’s Institutes and went on to congratulate the secretary of the association, Alias D. Miiler, and the organiser, Air. C. B. AloClure, on the splendid work they had rendered. All had cooperated freely in promoting the very best interests of the show. Concluding, Mr. Lancaster invited the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, M.P., to officially declare the show open. Tho Hon. Mr. Cobbe expressed regret at the absence of tho Alinister of Agriculture and went on to deal with the development of tho country’s primary production and tho steadily improving position of tho Dominion. New Zealand farmers had won a high place for themselves in the eyes of the world and it is essential that that position be fully protected by tho maintenance of the highest quality in our j>roduce. Air. Cobbe went on to praise the stock exhibits which he said reflected the industry of the breeders and their determination to keep only the best quality. He congratulated the association on iffc progress and opined that the show was of a higher standard than ever before. The Alinister referred to the displays organised by the Women’s Institutes and then officially declared the show open. The success of tho Feilding district Romney breeders, Alessrs. Alex Brown and Sons, of Kiwitea, in the Romney Alarsh section was noteworthy since this is the fourth occasion in succession that they have won the ram championship and tho first time on which they claimed the dual honours, that of ewe and ram. The ram was bred by Sir William Perry and combines the Perry and Wairongomai blood. Tho stud of these breeder;? is one of the largest in the Feildiug district and in recent years their rams have commanded high figures at the local ram fairs. I COMPETITIONS. (Judges: Ponies, Air.
