Mass Bands’ Demonstration

Representatives from the Garrison Band, City Band and Highland Pipe Band met together in Mr. S. I. McKenzie \s rooms to finalise arrangements concerning the big band display to be held at the Showgrounds on Sunday next, tho 7th inst., at 3 p.m. The committee consisted of Mr. J. S. Jcnkinson (in tho chair), Bandmaster C. Pike, Major V. J. Nicholson, and Messrs W. Allen, C. H. Greening, E. W. Drake, R. N. McCulloch and G. W. Kenning (secretary). Great enthusiasm was displayed at the meeting and it was decided that the combined bands will parade at the Opera House at 2.30 p.m. and at threeminute intervals will march to tho Showgrounds playing popular tunes. The order, as per ballot, will be: Ist Highland Band, 2nd City Band, and 3rd Garrison Band. All the bands have been playing consistently of late and are at top form. The quickstep will be a popular feature of the display and tho marching will be greatly appreciated. Tho Pipe Baud, under DrumMajor Petcrana, will give the audience a real Highland treat. Tho city and garrison bands under the leadership of Bandmasters O 'Kara and Pike arc playing at a high standard and will render bosides the quickstep tho beautiful and difficult contest pieces. A speciallyconstructed platform in view of the grandstand is to bo erected and parking arrangements for 700 cars are available. Tho programme for tho display has been left in tho capable hands of Mr. J. S. Jcnkinson and his Worship the Mayor, Mr. A. E. Mansford, has kindly consented to bo present. The audience is assured of not a dull moment and seats may bo reserved by ringing 5450. A silver coin collection will bo taken at the gate. In tlio event of bad weather prevailing the display will bo given in the largo hall adojining tho showgrounds so as not to disappoint the public.
