Girl Guides’ Magazine

The news given in *‘Te Eama, M the New Zealand Girl Guides * magazine, states that the “Lone Branch” will hold a conference in Wellington during May. It is mentioned that the Lone Motto is “ Solae sed Sodales,” a free translation of this being “Lones, but members of the Sisterhood. ” It was first thought that a Maori motto would be a good idea, but it was found that Maori did not lend itself to a suitable short translation. A giant “Bing of Adventures’-' was held at the Albert Hall, London, recently, when a number of the girls might well be called “adventurers,’* for they had come from all parts and in all sorts of transport, some having cycled from Wales and others having overcome disabilities in the way of blindness and lameness, determined not to be debarred from the thrill of joining the living “Chain of Guiding,” which consisted of 7000 Guides, who were linked as for “Auld Lang Syne,” and stretched unbroken round the entire building during a special ceremoney. All had the opportunity of meeting the beloved World Chief Guido, Lady J3aden-Powell. Many overseas j countries were represented, and many different uniforms were in evidence. Twenty-eight thousand seats were applied for, so great was the enthusiasm of the Girl Guides, and ,the organisers were obliged, very sadly, to return unfulfilled some thousands of seatapplication forms. However, part of the programme was broadcast by the national and regional stations, giving a number of the disappointed ones & chance at least of hearing what went on. 4 The February number of <4 Te Rama* is altogether an excellent one, having a capital article about gardening—a subject dear to the hearts of many adults as well as younger ones nowa days; directions about the treatment of burns and scalds, and a great deal of special guide information.
