MOST GIRLS GO TO

'J'HE constant aim of the business girl should be to achieve clothes that are quiet and restrained but smart and becoming withal. She should never wear anything in business hours that detracts from her efficiency or draws undue attention to herself. A secretary, typiste or stenographer should ensure that her personality dominates her clothes, for so many girls are subservient to each frock they don, becoming a fresh person with each change of raiment. This change of personality is permissible in the butterfly type of woman and is often a welcome change; but the girl who relies on her efficiency to hold down a responsible job must not play tricks with her personality. It should shine through her office garb like a sword gleaming in the thickness of the night. No employer cares to see his staff dressed as for the drawing room or the beach, and the wise business girl will endeavour to choose clothes that will draw attention to herself because of herself and not because of her apparel. A girl who is definitely not beautiful can make herself appear far more attractive by choosing plain, simple clothes rather than donning masses of frills and ribbons. The keynote foi office wear is simplicity. With this though! well in mind the business girl can achieve a reputation for good taste and efficiency beeanse her clothes will reflect her personality Every employer is pleased to ■ee his secretary

dressing for her job. He likes to see a capable person moving about his office, brisk, unhampered by frilly garments, and simply clad. : The business girl is not limited in her choice if she is to achieve the hallmark of a , well-dressed secretary. She may wear tweed • suits, cloth suits, woollen suits with neat, fresh silk blouses, but never frilly organdie or geor- , gette—these soil quickly and are not easily : laundered. Then again, her choice may turn to plain coat-frocks. There are many varieties of i these, and nothing is more suitable for office > wear. It is an excellent idea when a coatfrock forms part of one’s wardrobe to have several detachable sets of cuffs and collars in i washing material. In this way the frock s always looks fresh, and the business girl has scored several points in the contest for good l grooming. ; Many girls are confronted with the problem 3 of what to wear to the office when they want - to go on elsewhere after office hours. Alter the office costume as little as possible, or the 3 simple effect of weeks may be defeated in an ; afternoon’s work among trailing draperies. ; Dressing for the office must be planned as r carefully as for the ballroom, but with a little t care the business girl will find that she can i look smart in the street as well as workmanlike in the office wearing the same ensemble.
