Tibbett and Grace Moore in “New Moon”

GOLDEN VOICES PRESENT ORIGINAL SONG HITS (Mayfair: Screening To-day). “New Moon” not only enables moviegoers to hear the finest voices emanating from the talking screen to-day, but it permits them to enjoy in one vehicle two of the most interesting personalities. Fortunately, the story is worthy of its distinguished stars, Metro-Goidwyn-Mayer having adapted the New York stage success, ‘‘New Moon,” to the screen with such of the original song hits as “Lover Come Back to Me,” “Wanting You,” “One Kiss” and “Stouthearted Men” includes, in addition two new songs by Herbert Stothart and Clifford Grey, whose music was one of the attractions of * ‘The Rogue Bong.' ’ Tibbett plays the swashbuckling' Michael, Russian lieutenant who, while conveying his company on a steamer across tho Caspian sea, falls iu love with the princess Tanya, portrayed by Miss Moore. Tho princess, although engaged to governer Boris, the lieutenant’s superior officer, flirts with the young officer but gives him a cold shoulder when the ship lands and sho is met by her fiance. The resulting complications and denouement comprise the story which from its opening scene on a picturesque Russian steamer, to the conclusion is pemeated with an atmosphere of intrigue and romantic adventure. As the fiery lieutenant, Tibbett gives un even more magnetic and forceful performance than that of his “Rogue Bong.” Miss Moore is delightful as the princess but other scoring performances are contributed by Adolphe Menjou as the suave but dangerous governor, Roland Young as the eccentric uncle, Gus Shy as a faithful officer and 1 Emily Fitzroy as the nagging wife of tho uncle. The staging, setting and costumes give a rich and colourful background to the action. Jack Conway’s direction is as usual indicative* of careful workmanship and a mastery of eamera technique. Jack Laßue, who appeared in a leading role in Mae West’s famous stage hit, "Diamond Lil,” will make his first screen appearance with the star in Paramount’s "Go West Young Man.’'
