Schools to Reopen on March
OTHER EPIDEMIC RESTRICTIONS RAISED Per Pres# Association. WELLINGTON, Feb. S. The Hon. P. Fraser announces that all restrictions imposed as a result of the epidemic, except that relating to the opening of public and private schools, have been lifted as from next Saturday on ithe recommendation of his medical officers. A survey showed that in Dunedin* the only place where the disease bad ever attained really epidemic propox* tions, the outbreak had subsided. la both Dunedin and other places spora* die cases were still occurring and would doubtless continue for many weeks to come. The Department would continue to watch the position mosl carefully and he had instructed medi« cal officers that if there were any tew dency for the epidemic to spread ia any community they should not hesii tate to re-apply the restrictions which had appeared to be so successful ia the past. AUCKLAND, Feb. 2. Holding the view that"if by precautions even one child might be saved lifelong suffering those precautions were well worth taking, Dr. J. P. Hastings, a member of the Hospital Board, gave his opinion that the reopening of schools should be postponed at least until the beginning of March, when tbe who!© position might be reviewed. After quoting overseas opinion# concerning infantile paralysis, Dr. Hastings said that, as healthy carrier# played an important part in spreading th© disease, the reopening of schooli might mean that apparently healthy persons would infect susceptible child-
