Miss L. Warren has returned to Fitzherbert avenue after a holiday spout in Napier. Miss K. Thompson, Alan street, is a Palmerston North visitor to tin Chateau Tongariro. Mr. G. C. Francis, accompanied by Mrs. Francis, leavos for Wellington today where he will make a short sojourn prior to embarking on the Awatea for Sydney on February 9. Congratulations to Mr P. W. Goldsmith, Mayor of Levin and a member of the Foxton Harbour Board, on having attained the ago of 80, were extended by the board at its monthly meeting yesterday. The chairman (Mr J. Linklator) said Mr and Mrs Goldsmith were highly esteemed by all who knew them, and that Mr Goldsmith, by virtue of his' holding the ofiico of Mayor at 80 years of ago, must occupy a unique position in Now Zealand. He had been a very useful member of the board, which appreciated his services,

Owing, to his ponding removal to Morrinsvillc, Mr. John Ross, of Foxton, forwarded his resiguation as a member of tho Foxton Harbour Board to the monthly meeting of tho board yesterday. Reference to the valuable service that Mr. Ross had given in the board’s interests was made by the chairman (Mr J. Linklater) and on his motion a minute of appreciation was placed in the board’s books. Rather than take steps to fill tho vacancy immediately, the board decided to grant Mr Ross six months’ leave of absence.

Mr. H. C. Brent, District TeJegrapn Engineer for Palmerston North, has received notice cf his promotion to Christchurch as District Telegraph Engineer and leavos for that centre early in March. Mr. Brent came to Palmerston North from Wellington just on seven years ago. His successor will be Mr. Charles S. Plank, ot' Wellington, whose father recently retired from the position of Chief Telegraph Engineer for New Zealand. Mr. Plank, who is a nephew of Mr. L. J. Plank, headmaster of College Street School, arrives in Palmerston North at the end of the month.
