Scout Commissioners in Conference
Instituted, by the Manawatu Boy Scouts’ Association, a conference of Scout Commissioners from vurious associations in the North Island was held in the cty. at tjio week-end. The gathering was considered most successful by those attending, who found a number of addresses that were given of great interest. The commissioners attending were Messrs N. D. .Stubbs and L. G. Callis (Manawatu), Service, Johns, Abbott, Ward, and Matbesoa (Auckland), Southern (Matnmata; # Allen (Hamilton), Cooksey (Napier), Christie and Woollams (Wanganui), Smithers, Green and Middleton (Wellington), Vogel (Hutt), Jloruer (ifa* wera), B’crry and Partridge and Dr. Brown (New Plymouth), and Miss Nancy Wilson (Bulls), New Zealand Akcla Leader. A dinner at ' the Royal Dutch. Loungo on Saturday evening opened the conference, the visitors then being welcomed by Mr Stubbs. The following is the list of speakers and the chairmen for tho various sessions:— Mr J. R. 11. Cooksey on “A Commissioner’s Job”; chairman, Mr F. W. Horner, Mr Christie on “Scouting To-day,” chairman, Dr D. E. Brow'iu Open session for discussions; chairman Mr Southern. Miss Nancy Wilson on “Gilwcll Training for Club Officers”; chairman, Mr Service. Mr Johns, on “Spiritual Devotion in the Scout Movement,” Mr Cooksey chairman. Mr Vogel, on “Snags, from a New Coni; missioner’s Viewpoint”; chairman, Mr Smithers. On Sunday morning a “Scouts' Own” church service was held at tho All Saints’ Scout llall, Mr llorner officiating. The service was also attended by Scoutmasters and Cubmasters in Palmerston North.
