Dannevirke Stock Sale

Messrs Williams and Kettlo Ltd., report having held their weekly stock sale on Thursday when they offered another big yarding of sheep, and cattle to a good attendance of buyers representing West Coast, Hawke’s Bay and local districts. Lambs again predominated the yarding and anything well grown and in good condition sold, very well. A line of 58 well grown, big boned shorn ewe lambs realised the exceptionally good price of 30s fid. A total clearance was effected and prices realised were on a par with late market rates. Cattle also sold well. They quote as follows:

Cattle: Fat Jersey cows and heifers, £3 2s to £5 11s; springing Jersey cows, £4 15s to £5 ss; Jersey cows in milk, £2 15s to £3 2s 6d; Hereford and P.A. cows, £5 8s; store Jersey cows, £2 to £3 18s.

The Hawke’s Bay Farmers' Co-op. Association Ltd., report having offered a large yarding of sheep, principally lambs, and a fair yarding of .cattle and pigs to a good attendance. Prices realised wero in keeping with recent sales, as under:—Fat ewes 17s 1 to £1 Is; ewe lambs, £1 0s 4d, £1 Is 6d, £1 5s to £1 6s; small ewe lambs, 16s to 19s; wether lambs, 17s 6d, 18s, 18s 9d; 39s Od to £1 0s 2d; S.D. lambs, 15s 6d, 16s, 17s 6d to 19s; small wether lambs, lls Cd to 16s; fat dairy cows, £4 10s, £5 to £5 2s 6d; fat Jersey heifers, £4 lls; store cows, £1 5s to £3; springing Jersey heifers, £4 ss; cows in profit, £3 7s Gd to £4; weaner pigs 10s to 15s 6d.

Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having sold the following:—On a/e Mrs A. M. Berntsen, Awariki, 92 well grown woolly wether hogetts at 20s 6dj 91 b.f. lambs at 21s (3d; 150 ditto at 17s Id; 51 smaller ditto at 13s 6d; 60 Romney cross ewe lambs at 19s 2d; 95 Bomney cross wether lambs at 13s 2d; 22 shorn Romney wether lambs at 13s; 30 in.s. Koniney lambs at 10s 8d; 70 wether lambs at 9s 6d to 10s Id; 37 5-yr. ewes at 12s 4d; 2 two-year P.A. steers at £7 12s; 3 18 months steers at £3 12s. The Now Zealand Loan and Mercaji tile Agency, Co., Ltd., report having a good yarding of store lambs and a smalt yarding of store cattle. Good lambs again meet a keen demand medium and cull sorts did not show any improvement on previous sales.
