Faithful Service

Just before Christmas, a very pleasant gathering of some half dozen ladies, members of the executive of the W.C.T.U. took place at tho residence of Mrs W. Ritchie, Featherstono street. Owing to advancing years, and failing eye-sight, Mrs Ritchie has been obligod to retire from her work as Evangelistic superintendent, and scientific temperance superintendent, in connection with the local branch, which work she has carried out with great faithfulness and acceptability for many years. Sho joined the Palmerston North branch in 1910, when Mrs H. Mowlem was president, and before that was herself president of the Kaiapoi branch for nine years. Afternoon toa had been served by Mrs Scott and Miss Jamieson, Mrs Colsilk scarf to Mrs Ritchie, front tho members, said it was a \cry small token of their love, and appreciation of the very fine work sho had done for so long. She said that at every meeting, members had always fouud great inspiration in her prayers and Bible reading and comments on the latter, and that he r presence would be missed very much from the meetings. Mi*s Jamieson spoke of the euteem and affection that members had for her, and hoped that God’s richest blessing would remain with her to tne c--.

Mrs Hodder spoke of tho deep thought that Mrs Ritchie had always evinced in connection with her Bible readings, and stressed her quality of endurance, and also of her wonderful cheerfulness. In

spite of severe limitations in connection with sight and hearing, one never saw her cast down.

Other ladies present wero Mrs H. Dorrcen, who presented Mrs Ritchie with a nicely iced Christmas cake, Mrs Scott, Mrs Clausen and Mrs Penketh.
