Bowling

MANAWATU CENTRE MATCH NORTH v. SOUTH AT LEVIN A match was played at Levin on Saturday afternoon between the norfhern and southern clubs in the Manawatu Bowling Centre. Mr H. Denton (president of the Levin Club) extended a welcome to the visitors and said they were all delighted that the match had been arranged, because apart from the game, it had been tho means of bringing a large number of bowlers in the centre together. He trusted that tho visitors would have an enjoyable afternoon and hoped that the green would meet with their approval. He called for three cheers for the visitors. Mr J. A. Nash (president of the centre) thanked Mr Denton for the warm welcome they had received and said he hoped that the game they were about to play would become an annual fixture. He also invited the southern clubs to send rinks to Wellington on February 17. After calling for cheers for the southern clubs, the visitors gave one of their bowling chanties. The green was in excellent playing order and, although a strong wind was blowing, play generally was of a good standard. The following is the result of the various games played, southern names being given first: —Daymon (Foxton) 20 v. Evans (Terrace End) 14; Grey (Shannon) 20 v. Dummer (Feilding) 10; Longellan (Levin) 23. Rabone (Northern) 18; Clements (Levin 28 v. Low (Manawatu) 10; Bull (Levin) 21 v. Child (Palmerston North) 20; Leverson (Levin) 24 v. Hewat (Oroua) 20; Hemmingsen (Shannon) 13 v. Monks (Takaro) 20; Howe (Foxton) 12 v. Nash (Palmerston North) 37. Majority for the southern players, 12. Centre Match. Arrangements are being completed for the Wanganui-Mauawatu Centre match to bo played at Wanganui on Wednesday, February 24. Eight rinks will participate in the game. The new centre badges are very attractive. Emblematical of New Zealand, they have a Maori chief across the centre with a taiha and the letters N.Z. and finished in tho Manawatu colours, green and white. Terraco End Beats Pahiatua. Eight rinks from Pahiatua visited Terrace End on Saturday. The green was in splendid order, but play was spoilt to a large extent on account of the high wind prevailing. Despite this fact a most enjoyable time was spent and the games resulted in a win for Terrace End on the aggregate points by 13. Melville, Blummont, Thomas, Anderson (skip) 12; Davin, Watkins, Peterson, Hunter (skip) 16 v. Christie, Pitcher Locke, Wallace (skip) 1J; Gregory, McCardle, Stack, Bisset (skip) 17 v. Rinks championship.—Kells, Clinton, Wills, Allen (skip) beat Mears, Pitcher, Baldwin, Childs (skip); Andrews, Wycherley, Locke, Dixon (skip) beat Knowles, Milne, Hanly, Snell (skip).
