Record Takings at Wallingford Sports
AN UNPLEASANT WIND. ' WAIPUKURAU, Sunday. The Wallingford sports were held yesterday at Wallingford, and beat all previous records, in spit© of tho violent wind all day. The grato takings and tho entries were larger than for some years past. In the big jumping ever*, there were 15 entries compared with last year, j and 29 entries for the turning com- j petition against 19 last year. The dog trial competitions were an ' innovation this year. They attracted good entries. An imp event j winch created a good deal of intercut was a challenge by the Atua Station to tho Wallingford Station to contest I a foot relay race. Wallingford accepted immediately, but lost the race to tho Atua team. Tho weight-guessing competitions were remarkable in that the winner of tho sheep weight-guessing, Air A. Houseman, estimated tho weight to within lib., and in the lamb weightguessing Airs It. I*. Wilder and Air , V. D. Hill tied with a guess of 551b5., j which proved to bo tho correct weight. I Air T. Geenty won the two points challenge cups outright this year, this being his second year in succession to secure most points for both the club’s silver challenge cup for the greatest number of points in all horse events (Mr Gcenty’s total being 13), and Air W. Fleming’s challenge cup for the greatest number of points in horse events other than jumping, Air Geenty scoring an aggregate of 11 points. Results were:— HORSE EVENTS. Pony jump.—Alias D.
