Youth Prevails in Auckland Tennis Championships
BROWN WINS MEN’S SINGLES Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. Tho Auckland Lawn Tenuis Association’s annual championship tournament was concluded with the following results:— Men’s singles: Brown beat Sturt, 3—6, B—6, 4—6, 6—2, 6—3. Ladies’ singles: Miss Margaret Beverley boat Miss Bishop, 6—2, 6—2. Men’s doubles: JSturt and Gun beat Brown and Mayson, 6—2, o—2, 6—o. Features of the tournament wore the winning of five events by Miss Margaret Beverley, the 18-year Matamata player, three in the intermediate section and two iu the senior, and Brown’s win in the men’s singles, so that the events were a triumph for youth. Sturt has now won the Auckland doubles o seven occasions. VINES BEATS PERRY ON CLAY COURT. United Press Association— By Jwectrio Received Monday, 10.30 p.m. MONTREAL, Feb. 1. At Miami Beach Vines defeated Perry 5—7, 7 —5, 6—4. This was tb* first meeting on a clay court since the Englishman turned professional. In the doubles Vines and Perry defeated Barnes and Lott 6—4, 5—7, 10—8. BIG FIGHT IN AUSTKAHAN DOUBLES FINAL. Received Monday, midnight. SYDNEY, Feb. 2. In the Australian tennis championships in the mixed doubles final Hopmau and Mrs Hopmau beat Turnbull and Miss Stevenson, 3—6, 6 —3, 6—2. In tho men’s doubles final Quist and Turnbull beat Bromwich and Harper, 6—2, 9—7, I—6, 6—B, 6—i. In the women’s singles final Alias Wynne (Victoria) beat Mrs VVestacott (Queensland) 6—3, 5 —7, 6—4.
