Obituary

MRS. H. SCOTTER. Tho death occurred at Whangarei last week of Mrs. Harriet Scotter, one of Auckland’s oldest residents and mother of Rev. A. N. Scotter, of Palmerston North. Mrs. Scotter was born at Albert Barracks in 18.48, her lather being Sergeant J. Warren, of the Royal Sappers and Miners. He had come to Auckland in charge of a company that was engaged in the building of one of Queen street’s first wharves. Mrs. Scotter had vivid recollections of somo of the early events in the settlement — the arrival of tho survivors of tho wrecked Orpheus, the dread of Maori raids and the pageant of military funerals, of which her father was one of the earliest. After her marriage to Mr. W. G. Scotter, Mrs. Scotter was away from Auckland for many years. After the death of her husband in 1908 she returned from Gisborne and had lived for a long period with her daughter, Mrs. S. T. Dadson, of Devonport.
