Drivers Neck Broken When Car Goes Over Bank
ON WAY TO JOIN WIFE AND' CHILDREN. Per Preha Association. WANGANUI, Last Night. As a result of tho car he was driving falling approximately 80 feet over u bank on the l'arapara road, George Carrutliers, a married man aged 35, fanner, of Tauhue, Te Awamutu, was killed on Saturday nighf. The accident occurred shortly after midnight. Deceased was driving from his farm to join his wife and two children who havo been holidaying with her parents at Alakirikiri, near Wanganui. When approaching Otoku Pa, about 28 miles from the city, Carruthers drove to the extreme outside edge of the road to allow another vehicle to pass. Apparently he drove too far and the car crashed over the bank, the driver suffering a broken neck.
MAORI FATALLY INJURED BY PASSING MOTOR.
TRAGEDY AT ROTORUA. (Special to “Times.”) ROTORUA, Last Night. Fatal injuries were receivod by an elderly native, Niheta Pene Naru, of Roto lvawa, when he was struck by a motor vehicle at 11.50 on Saturday night. He was proceeding on foot to his homo on the main Tauianga-Rotorua highway, and was about one and a-haif miles from Rotorua. He suffered extensive injuries which included a fractured skull, concussion and a broken leg. Although he was immediately rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries a short while after admission. An inquest was opened to-day before the Coroner, Air. W. L. Richards, and after evidence of identification had been given the hearing was adjourned sine
