POOR SCORING IN FEILDING CRICKET

Public Service Lead Colyton

FEILDING DOWN TO OLD BOYS The opening stages of a further round in tho senior grade cricket in Feilding on Saturday witnessed rather poor scoring, while some unexpected success attended the trundlers. Colyton met Public Service on No. 1 wicket and were dismissed for 87 in a bowling attack in which honours were shared by Mopteith and Sinclair. Shorthanded. Feilding were dismissed in their first strike for 78, Rosoman and S. Bramwel! doing the damage with unusual case. At stumps Service had a lead on Colyton and Old Boys were ahead of Feilding. The collapse of Colyton was quite a surprise. The first wicket, that of A. Waldin, fell with only five runs up and the second went with the telegraph only registering 12. Three further wickets fell without any movement in the telegraph but thereafter the bats steadied up and with tho aid of the stand made by M. Fitzherbert the score was carried to 87 which included IS extras. Monteith took four wickets for 13 runs and Sinclair five for 31. Replying, were far from con fident and appeared likely to suffer a similar fate. Stephens opened with Barltrop but six wickets fell before Colyton's tally had been reached and thereafter Stephens and Mitchell open ed out to the bowling to carry the score to a total of 138 for nine wickets. Stephens batted steadily until he was joined by Mitchell and both bats combined to carry the score to a point equalling that of Colyton. Both played cautiously but once the tally of their opponents had been reached caution was thrown to tho winds. After compiling 44 Stephens, who had handled the willow with skill, lifted one to Whitehead off Hocken. Mitchell then hit out and had the pleasure of sending the leather on a flight which carried to the iron fenco of tho Racing Club's property. He was dismissed for 49 after a very bright and vigorous batting effort. Feilding took tho field against Old Boys with three bats absent and faced the very effective bowling of Rosoman and Bramwell who captured between them eight wickets for 53 runs. The effort closed for a total of 78 for eigh wickets. Old Boys were in better heart and compiled 126 in reply, S. Bramviell providing 32 of the total in his usual rigorous style. Sugdcn captured six of the wickets for 49 in a stylo which baffled the bats. In the junior competition only one match was played, the new Union eleven defeating Wesley by a narrow margin in an entertaining game. The following are the details:— COLYTON v. PUBLIC SERVICE.
