Elephant Takes Tusk
ADVENTURE IN KENYA CAPETOWN, Dec. 2. The Kenya Game Department discloses an intriguing story of how a.cow elojihant calmly robbed the Government of, 401 b. of confiscated ivory, part of a consignment of six tusks taken from native poachers. A fow days ago the honorary game warden at Voi sent a game scout and some porters to collect six tusks lying buried near the Athi river. The ivory was duly recovered, but on the return journey the party met in the thick bush a herd of elephants, including cows and calves. The porters dropped their loads and fled in all directions. Approaching the ivory, one , cow elephant picked up a tusk weighing 401 b. and made off. The scout followed for ten miles, during which the elephant stopped several times to feed, but always with the tusk within easy reach, and she eventually outdistanced the scout.
